The Alexandria Coffeehouse Film Series October Feature "Ben X" "Rarely has so much emotion and excitement been compressed into 90 minutes of screen time." ~ Denis Seguin, Screen Daily Running Time: 93 Minutes. In Dutch with English subtitles. Unrated. Synopsis Ben is different. His life is a universe all to itself, where he avidly plays his favorite on-line computer game in an attempt to train for and block out the reality of his daily experiences. Ben has Asperger's Syndrome, a mild form of autism that prevents normal communication and makes him ideal fodder for all the school bullies. As the bullies' relentless attacks push him over the edge and out of control, his on-line dream girl, Scarlite, appears to him and helps him devise a perfect plan to confront the bullies and make them pay for their torment. Director Nic Balthazar's dazzling debut blends fantasy and harsh social realism, based on a true story, to bring us an utterly original and important film. Blogsite Check out the Film Series Blogsite for details including a preview trailer for the film, a link to the movie's website, directions to the restaurant and more! Notes Because the films in this series have not been widely distributed, most of them are unrated. Please be advised that unless otherwise indicated these films generally contain adult themes and are not suitable for children. Rather than being an "official" event hosted by the Washington Digital Meetup Group, this is a community event in which members are being invited to attend. As such there will be no formal gathering and film discussion unless otherwise indicated. Reservations at FireFlies are accepted and strongly encouraged. They can be reached at: 703-548-7200. Let them know that you're planning to attend the film screening and ask for a table with a good view.

The Friends of Duncan Library and FireFlies Proudly Present The Alexandria Coffeehouse Film Series August Feature "The Grocer's Son" (Le Fils de l'epicier) "Like taking a vacation the French countryside and meeting people there of whom you grow extraordinarily fond, "The Grocer's Son" (Le Fils de l'epicier) is an unalloyed pleasure, start to finish." - Green Cine Daily Running Time: 96 Minutes. In French with English subtitles. Unrated. Synopsis It is summer, and thirty-year-old Antoine is forced to leave the city to return to his family in Provence. His father is sick, so he must assume the lifestyle he thought he had shed—driving the family grocery cart from hamlet to hamlet, delivering supplies to the few remaining inhabitants.
