The familiar agonies of adolescence are given a fresh slant and a perceptive treatment in "XXY," the quietly impressive first feature from Argentinean filmmaker Lucía Puenzo.

Running Time: 91 Minutes. In Spanish with English subtitles. Unrated.

Synopsis
For just about everybody, adolescence means having to confront a number of choices and life decisions, but rarely any as monumental as the one facing 15 year-old Alex who was born an intersex child.

As Alex begins to explore her sexuality, her mother invites friends from Buenos Aires to come for a visit at their house on the gorgeous Uruguayan shore, along with their 16-year-old son. Alex is immediately attracted to the young man, which adds yet another level of complexity to her personal search for identity, and forces both families to face their worst fears.

Check out the Film Series Blogsite for details including a preview trailer for the film, a link to the movie's website, directions to the restaurant and more!

Notes
Because the films in this series have not been widely distributed, most of them are unrated. Please be advised that unless otherwise indicated these films generally contain adult themes and are not suitable for children.
Rather than being an "official" event hosted by The Washington Digital Video Meetup Group, this is a community event in which WDVMG members are being invited to attend. As such there will be no formal gathering and film discussion unless otherwise indicated. That said, we still think it's fun =).
Reservations at FireFlies are accepted and strongly encouraged. They can be reached at: 703-548-7200. Let them know that you're planning to attend the film screening and ask for a table with a good view.

Aussie writer and director Matthew Saville shifts the police thriller genre away from the familiar and onto the fringe in "Noise."

Running Time: 107 Minutes. Unrated.

Synopsis
This is a story about the wrong person in the right place at the wrong time. Two heinous crimes have left a suburban town reeling. Police quickly connect them, but are desperate for witnesses as the local community enfolds itself in a shroud of secrecy, borne from fear and an untrammeled mistrust of authority.

A young police constable, Graham McGahan, suffers from a chronic hearing problem and applies for worker's compensation. To his chagrin, he is stationed at a police caravan near the crime scene. Living on the periphery of the investigation, McGahan crosses paths with the various people affected by the tragedies and uncovers an unraveling nightmare of guilt and suspicion. © Sundance Film Festival.

This is a last-minute posting, and attendees may bring scripts, ideas, current and past projects as well as resources to share.

There is an agenda of sorts, including some projects people have interest in, and we'll discuss progress on "film project #2", which is past the storyboard phase and into location scouting and casting.

We can network and form teams, collaborate on projects, brainstorm, etc.

We can hold the meeting for as long as we wish. But do bring munchies and drinks to share with the rest of the group :)

Location: The location will be sent to people who RSVP "Yes" or "Maybe" prior to the event.
